Liverpool Football Club has responded to the tragic passing of their forward, Diogo Jota.
In a statement posted on their official X account on Thursday, the Premier League champions expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the Portuguese player.
“Liverpool Football Club is devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota,” the club tweeted.
Jota and his brother Andre lost their lives in a car accident in the Zamora province of Spain on Thursday.
This heartbreaking news comes less than two weeks after Jota married Rute Cardoso in Porto, Portugal.
The 28-year-old had helped Liverpool secure the English Premier League title last season.
He was on holiday ahead of the 2025/26 season when the tragic incident occurred.
Jota, who is expected to be laid to rest in the coming days, leaves behind three children with Cardoso.
