⚽Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has identified two major weaknesses in his team ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 match against Juventus on Tuesday.
Alonso observed Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over RB Salzburg early Friday, which secured their spot in the knockout stage.
Goals from Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde, and Gonzalo GarcĂa sealed the win against the Austrian side.
In his post-match interview, Alonso noted that Real Madrid struggled with pressing and found it difficult to maintain possession in the opponent’s half.
Because of this, the team had to slow down their play, according to the Spanish coach.
“In the second half, we wanted to attack faster, but we lacked enough passing,” Alonso said (via Madrid Zone).
“We couldn’t play much in the opponent’s half. We had to calm down.”
Real Madrid will take on Juventus in the Round of 16 after finishing top of Group H.
